5 Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

Hiring the right wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your big day. Your photographer will be responsible for preserving the memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime, so it’s crucial to find someone who truly understands your vision and can deliver the images you’ve always dreamed of. Asking the right questions is key to finding the perfect fit. These 5 questions to ask your wedding photographer will not only give you confidence in your choice but also ensure that every moment of your wedding day is captured exactly how you envision it.

1. What’s Your Photography Style?

Photographers aren’t one-size-fits-all. Some focus on candid, documentary-style photos (like catching your grandma breaking it down on the dance floor), while others lean into posed, editorial vibes. Knowing your photographer’s style will ensure their approach matches your vision. Do you want timeless, romantic images? Or are you looking for those raw, in-between moments? Or a bit of both?

Pro Tip: Ask to see full wedding galleries, not just Instagram highlights, to get a sense of how they handle an entire day—not just the pretty portraits.

2. How Do You Handle Wedding Day Timelines?

Your photographer is more than just someone with a camera; they’re your day-of MVP. From planning how much time is needed for getting-ready shots to wrangling the bridal party for group photos, photographers often keep things moving smoothly. Make sure they have experience managing tight schedules and can adapt when things inevitably run late (because they often times do).

Bonus Question: Ask if they provide timeline suggestions or work with your planner to make sure all those dreamy photo ops are accounted for.

3. Have You Shot at My Venue Before?

While it’s not a dealbreaker if they haven’t, having a photographer who’s familiar with your venue can be a major plus. They’ll know the best spots for portraits, how to handle tricky lighting, and even where to sneak you away for those golden-hour shots. If they haven’t been to your venue, ask if they’re open to scouting it out ahead of time or reviewing photos of the space.

4. What’s Included in Your Packages?

This is the big one. Understand exactly what you’re paying for—hours of coverage, a second shooter, travel fees, albums, engagement sessions, and so on. Transparency is key here. The last thing you want is to fall in love with a photographer only to realize their package doesn’t include the coverage you need or sneaks in hidden costs.

Pro Tip: Ask about delivery timelines and how many photos you can expect. You want to know when you’ll be reliving your big day through their lens!

5. How Do You Back Up My Photos?

No one wants to think about things going wrong, but accidents happen. Make sure your photographer has a solid backup plan for your photos. This includes using dual memory cards, storing images in multiple locations, and having a backup camera on hand. Your wedding day memories deserve maximum protection.

These 5 questions to ask your wedding photographer aren’t just about logistics—they’re about finding someone you can trust to bring your vision to life. When you’re confident in your photographer, it shows in every photo. Ready to see if we’re the perfect fit? Let’s chat and start planning your dream day!
