Your photographer can help with so much more than simply showing up to photograph your proposal. Sometimes, having someone to bounce ideas off of is exactly what you need. A simple idea can quickly turn into something personal, exciting, and completely unexpected.

Gabe is a good friend of mine, and he came to me knowing he wanted to propose to Morgan somewhere in the Minnesota Lakes Area. The only problem? He didn’t really know how he for sure wanted to do it yet.

We started brainstorming and came up with a game plan together. I had the idea of doing the proposal on a sailboat. It felt like such a fun and unique way to incorporate the Detroit Lakes Area into their story.

Gabe loved the idea and found someone with a sailboat who could help us make it happen.

Then we had to figure out how to get Morgan there without making her suspicious. I started a group text with Gabe and Morgan and told them I had a sailboat shoot idea I’d been wanting to do. I asked if they would model for me. It gave us the perfect excuse to have them dressed up, on a sailboat, with me taking photos of the two of them.

Morgan thought she was showing up for a couples shoot, which worked out perfectly!

That’s one of the reasons I love being involved in proposals from the beginning. You don’t need to come to me knowing exactly where you’re going to propose or how you’re going to pull it off. Sometimes you just need an idea, a little creativity, and someone who can help you figure out the details.
